What Type of Anti-Theft Device Should I Choose for My Pharmacy?
Pharmacies are particularly hard hit by shoplifting. While video surveillance for pharmacies is an effective security solution for pharmacies, the physical protection of products should not be overlooked. So what type of anti-theft device should you choose for your pharmacy? Don't worry, we've got you covered.
Anti-Theft Gates for Pharmacies
There are many different types of anti-theft device for stores . Whatever technology you choose, you'll need a security gate. This is the case for pharmacies, which sell a large number of self-service products. As soon as an item fitted with an anti-theft system passes through these gates, an alarm is triggered. There are several types of anti-theft detector designed to protect products:
Radio Frequency (RF) Gates
These detectors, installed in pairs, use magnetic induction to trigger alarms. One of the two detectors is actually an antenna that emits waves, while the second detector is a sensor for the signal sent. The electromagnetic signal is amplified as soon as an anti-theft device passes between the two gates, triggering the alarm. Note: metal objects tend to interfere with the signal.
Electromagnetic (EM) Gates
This type of technology works when there is a change in the magnetic field. Electromagnetic gates have a relatively short range (around one meter). These systems are effective even when metal objects are present.
Acousto-Magnetic (AM) Gates
Acousto-magnetic portals are undoubtedly the most suitable technology for protecting pharmacies. The most recent system on the market, these gates operate using a pulsed magnetic field. If an anti-theft device is detected, two magnetic strips inside the anti-theft device vibrate, triggering the alarm.
Which Anti-Theft Devices Should I Choose for My Pharmacy?
There are several types of anti-theft system suitable for products sold in pharmacies:
Anti-Theft Labels
Round or rectangular in shape, adhesive anti-theft labels are discreet and can be stuck directly onto products. They are particularly suitable for products found in pharmacies and drugstores: sun creams, anti-wrinkle creams, nail varnish, blush, tubes of toothpaste and so on. All these products are small, so self-adhesive labels can be placed directly on them. The labels are particularly thin, and most of them have a barcode. They are very difficult to remove and must be deactivated at the checkout so as not to trigger the security alarm. A simple anti-theft solution.
Anti-Theft Boxes
These small transparent plastic boxes are ideal for make-up products (mascara, tubes of lipstick, eyeshadow, etc.). Fitted with a special lock, they allow you to see the product while protecting it from theft.
Anti-Theft TAGs
Anti-theft TAGs are discreet but very powerful anti-theft devices. They can take the form of a self-adhesive label or a thin plastic strip placed inside packaging. Antitheft TAGs ensure that an item does not detract from its appearance.
Eyewear Anti-Theft Devices
Sunglasses and reading glasses are increasingly sold in pharmacies. Special anti-theft devices have been developed to secure these items. These consist of a two-part plastic clip that snaps onto one of the temples of the frame. Designed to protect glasses without preventing them from being tried on, this type of anti-theft device allows you to choose your model without altering its aesthetic appearance. They come in two sizes: small for prescription glasses and large for sunglasses.
Multi-Alarm Cables
For larger items, such as cases, multi-alarm cables are the most suitable anti-theft devices. These are fastened around the product with a tie. If they pass between the anti-theft gates, they trigger an alarm, but they are also equipped with their own alarm. This is triggered if you try to cut the anti-theft cable.
Not satisfied with conventional anti-theft systems? To make your pharmacy even more secure, you can also install an intelligent video surveillance system.
